Mtn Dew VooDew (2021) Soda Review

VooDew is back for the 2021 holiday season, for some reason. The label is only barely modified for this year, but the elixir inside is the same freaky albino fluid that looks like diaphanous milk. It is unappealing but somehow appropriate for its Halloween gimmick.

It is another "mystery flavor," which my first sip confirms my unfortunate suspicion that this is yet again not candy corn inspired. It is instead a sort of indistinct citrus blend of pineapple and lemon that is insecure in its own personality. It lays heavy into the sweetness instead of sourness, 270 calories of all high fructose corn syrup that packs the palate with unnecessary sugariness. By the halfway point all your tongue can detect is the carbohydrate, and when there are only a few drips left, your mouth is so soiled by this oily unessentiality. An artificial sweetener could have broken through the stalwart grossness, an unrefined experience that only makes sense when you realize that October 31st is all about candy excess.

There is 146% of your daily intake of added sugar, which summarizes all that is wrong with the soft drink industry. But it is OK if this is a "once in a while" treat and not routinely, but then I remember that this is the third anniversary of Mtn Dew VooDew, which is too close to "routinely" for my stomach to stomach.
