I've been trying to get my hands on any of the Crunk energy drinks for quite some time, but if there was one in particular that I've especially wanted, it would be the citrus variety. Crunk Citrus comes in a vibrant yellow and green can, and though it mostly fits the billed citrus flavour, the design itself is fair to middling. The can isn't very cluttered or busy, and while it initially gives the consumer a good amount of eye candy, it soon wears thin. One thing that I really don't like is that the drinks slogan, "Get Crunk," appears just above the name, "Crunk." It's too much crunk!
Crunk Citrus is initially heavy on an underlying sourness that as it slowly fades, a slightly syrupy sweetness rises. The actual flavour body is light and there's strong focus on a lemon and ginger ale braid. The lemon is predominate, and is respectfully tart, and the ginger ale is appropriately laid back. Then, as the fluid moves through out your mouth, the flavour concentrates on the ginger ale that has since fused with a more-than-a-note lime flavour. The lime, like the ginger ale, is mellow, however, the cross end up becoming bland. Thankfully, there's a fair level of tartness, sweetness, and sourness present that prevents the experience from ending uninterestingly. There's not much carbonation, which results in a very smooth beverage that's perhaps finished a bit too soon. Overall, Crunk Citrus's taste was enjoyable, but not as well rounded as I would of liked.
Crunk Citrus definitely has some power behind it, but not that much more than average. Thanks to caffeine(194mg), vitamin C, vitamin E, inositol, guarana, ginko, ginseng, and several B vitamins, I had nearly four hours of energy that contained an occasional spurt of the jitters. The buzz did end with a crash, but it wasn't severe enough to make me feel groggy. In the end, Crunk Citrus is largely a good energy drink, but not good enough to qualify its large price tag of $2.89.
