Coca-Cola Energy Zero Sugar Drink Review

Coca-Cola Energy Zero Sugar looks exactly how one imagines. Using the Coke Zero Sugar color scheme and the Coke Energy design, the results are a familiar appearance that is sure to confuse some casual cola consumers. Though its caffeinated nature is proudly proclaimed, I cannot imagine some more mature fans of the soft drink having no idea what they are holding, and how it is any different; perhaps each can should come with a pair of reading glasses, a pamphlet and a free gift.

The meat-and-potatoes here is the cola taste, and it hits all the notes you would expect being graced by diet sugars and the influential crimson logo. Cinnamon, vanilla, and a puzzled depiction of some unknown citrus are overwhelmed by a spiked effervescence, one that floods your mouth with all the bubbles they could cram into the twelve ounce can. Ace-k and sucralose, a most common synthetic sweetener system, give sips a soda-profile that help gulps taste familiar; closing my eyes and imbibing almost provides the illusion I am quaffing a can of plain ol' Coke Zero. Yet I know I am not. There is a stronger aftertaste of what people call "functional" flavor, a loose term describing how the energy supplements sit on the tongue. Guarana is the primary funky little addition to the experience, which is instantly recognizable to energy drink fans, but gives the cola profile a slightly sullied suggestion; its earthy bite distracting from the otherwise commercially static potation. I am all about taking chances, but here, things here feel unintentionally nonplussed.

Each can contains B vitamins, guarana, and caffeine (just 114 milligrams). The buzz is the most disappointing thing here, lasting just over an hour and a half- not terrific considering the roughly two buck price point can get you far more potent potables. To end, Coca-Cola Energy Zero Sugar could have been so much more; right now however, it is just "not bad."

Coca-Cola Energy Cherry Drink Review

Coca-Cola Energy Cherry is the clumsy official spelling here, rolling off of the tongue ungracefully compared to, say, Coca-Cola Cherry Energy, but I suppose it is not the end of the world. But it is a small part of the product's overall misguided misfortune, as the can does not quite grasp what makes that famous red can so legendary. The pink hues do not lithely bring images of the popular cola to mind, and the funky script backdrop feels more corporate than it does sophisticated.

The flavor does in fact taste like "cola" and "cherry," but it does not taste like "Cherry Coke." The cola flavoring is is reduced to mentions of vanilla and citrus, suffering from a salvo of candied cherry flavor. The onslaught destroy any nuance the caramel colored cocktail could compete with, leaving your palate remembering only that something cherry washed across your tongue. Sweetness, thirty nine grams of high fructose corn syrup and glucose, sips more aggressively here than traditional branded offerings, sipping with a teeth-rotting pleasure that feels more on par with something competitor Pepsi would produce. But all this sugariness only goes so far in masking the taste of guarana, which gives every imbibe a medicinal bite that gets more tolerable as sips commence, but not any more enjoyable; what ever is washed away by one gulp is replaced by a fresh coat of acrid earthiness. The front of the can glows with its mention of the herb, but it only takes a few sips to realize Coke wants to use the stimulant, but does not know why or how.

Each can contains 114 milligrams of caffeine, which is a good start but does not have a lot of support from other supplements. Only two B vitamins and guarana are along for the party, the generally subpar two hour buzz of a party. In the end, Coke Cherry Energy (a far better name, for what it is worth), is just OK. Not bad; not great; just, OK.

Coca-Cola Energy Drink Review

Well here we are, Coca-Cola throws its hat into the ring with Coca-Cola Energy, their first American energy drink using the famous branding. The packaging is more of a hit than a miss, with its psychedelic patterned backdrop showcasing the iconic logo lovingly, with its caffeinated nature brightly advertised. However, twelve ounces is a shame, considering most companies have upgraded to sixteen; at least it is not a meager eight, I suppose.

The flavor is not totally your classic Coke, although it comes close; if you were to close your eyes and do a blind taste test, Coca-Cola Energy would be what you labeled as the "generic" option on the ballot. Spice notes involves a lot of cinnamon and an ever so slight addition of clove, but it is an otherwise underspiced experience. The preponderate taste of the potable is vanilla with myriad murmurings of citruses, namely orange and a mention of lime; giving a distinctly indistinct fruity aftertaste. Sweetness from high fructose corn syrup help cement its soda origins, giving imbibes that loose viscid texture, although the addition of glucose helps reign in any overwhelming slipperiness. The latter sugar provides weight to every mouthful, imbuing some toothsome grit to the principally samey syrupiness. Everything comes together for a generally pleasant drink, but Coke could have taken more chances, or at least lay heavier into remixing.

Each can contains a boilerplate 114 milligrams of caffeine, the meat-and-potatoes of the two hour long buzz here. Other ingredients include old favorites like B vitamins and guarana. Overall, Coca-Cola Energy is a safe attempt at modernizing the soft-drink giant that takes unfortunately few liberties with its origins.
