Tweaker Energy Drink Review

Sometimes you need a product like Tweaker to really see how far the energy drink market has come. This is a Red Bull clone no doubt, from its personalityless design and substandard twelve ounce can, this can just stares at you from the Dollar Tree shelf cowardly, ashamed of itself.

Of course I just assumed this was a Red Bull clone, but the first sip seals the deal- this is the exact flavor we have all had dozens if not hundreds of times before. Vanilla, apple and bubble gum explodes from the can, shrapnel piercing your poor palate with its curt disinterest. Your tastebuds burn in the metallic hell, sinking down to your gut and rotting through. On top of all that is a medicinal acidity, which remains deep inside every corner of your mouth long after you empty potable. On the good side, thirty nine grams of sugar and dextrose are responsible for the sweetness, and it is about the only balanced aspect within the thin aluminum walls. The typical syrupiness is no where to be found, washing off your tongue cleanly and without effort. But a fair saccharinity alone is not enough to rescue an experience, and that is certainly the case here.

There is 160 calories and only 114.6 milligrams of caffeine, along with some B vitamins, taurine, and inositol. The buzz is just hardly worth it after a taste like this, lasting about an hour and a half, and all those carbohydrates results in one rough sugar crash. Overall, Tweaker is an energy drink, but that is about all the positives I can muster.

Tweaker Pink Lemonade Energy Shot Review

Everything went wrong with this label: even on the small retail space of a shot nobody wants to read vertical text. And pink on pink for the logo is too much despite decent readability, and come on, can a pink energy product be any flavor other than pink lemonade? Oh, and do not forget that this is "with calcium," because that is apparently just so important.

The sweaty stench of fake lemonade escapes from the thin bottle, warm and grossly dense with a tartness that would make Greek yogurt jealous. The sweetness is... sweet, tolerable but boring and dispassionate. Things are supposed to taste like lemon, lemonade rather, and for two ounces it does, but to sit here, sip and sit back and reflect, you expose the beverage's heavily abridged and impartial impersonation of a fruit deserving more. But for a shot, a shot strictly, this is not all that bad.

Each shot contains: caffeine, ginseng, yerba mate, and calcium of course. And there a three hour kick too, give or take, one without a crash or jitters. Overall, Tweaker Pink Lemonade kicks decently, which being the entire point of shots, makes this only a decent shot.

Tweaker Mango Peach Energy Shot Review

The first "extra strength" Tweaker shot seen, this Mango-Peach flavor has a '3' hovering towards the top (whereas previous varieties had a '2'). There is no indication as to what it means; there are "two" servings, not three, and this certainly is not their third such flavor. The rest of the bottle is not much better, a messy salad of bland backgrounds and useless text, nothing worth the extra fifty cents paid over the former variety's ninety-nine cent price tag.

The first sip reveals a surprisingly authentic mango taste, thanks to its conservative sweetness, although not as robust or deep as the actual fruit. Equally strong is a peach flavor, tantamountly sweet but is far duller a mimicking. It feels hollow on the tongue, benefiting nothing being so small and from simulating the Chinese export without any actual juice. The shot is initially only slightly sour, but the acidity thickens quickly by the time that sip reaches the back of the tongue. By the last drop the tartness is sharp and piercing, still somewhat appropriate for the fruits but does diminish some of their opening realism. It is a bit of an underdeveloped flavor, but is a bit more complex an experience than expected.

Each bottle contains: B vitamins, caffeine, ginseng, yerba mate, green tea, and some other words too long or convoluted to type. There is a solid three plus hours of energy here, a satisfying buzz to a fairly satisfying shot.

Tweaker Berry Energy Shot Review

Many of times have I seen Tweaker Berry, or one of its line brethren, sport a huge "99 cent" price tag, yet the packaging itself calls for it retailing for an additional dollar. Why merchants shy away and mark the shot down could be for any number of reasons, but it does seem like a waste of space on the actual bottle. Granted, the company may not know how much retailers charge for their products, but you can't tell me someone from marketing hasn't ever stepped into a convenience store.

This Tweaker is the sourest of them all, at least of the one that I've reviewed, and unfortunately it's paired off with the shot's hyper saccharinity, one that's equally as syrupy and almost cloyingly so. There is a flavour to be witnessed here, yes, one obviously of berry, however the blend is dull despite all the acidity and sweetness. No single fruit is the focus, instead we're exposed to a lackadaisical monkey mash of blue, black, and raspberry, all underdeveloped and insultingly emotionless. But with a shot, simplicity isn't much of a fault, as they're designed for rapid consumption, so Tweaker Berry really isn't all that bad, especially since you can painlessly finish it in just a few sips.

Each bottle contains a decent selection of various herbs, chemicals, extracts and stuff, including unknown quantities of caffeine. The energy cocktail kicks well enough, three hours if generous, and there wasn't any of the feared side effects. All in all, Tweaker Berry is a functional shot who's bitterless taste and cheap price outweigh many of its quirks.

Tweaker Grape Energy Shot Review

Well, aren't we a cluttered little product? I obviously speak of the many tiny sentences that vary from being warnings to being selling points, but the biggest issue is the name itself. Much like the previously reviewed pomegranate variety, there's a stupid "2" following the flavour indication, which itself appears twice. But now there's even more needless text, though the picture does a poor job at proving this, with the addition of the moniker "Purple Haze." Sure, I understand the title, but just further clouds the bottle's potential clarity.

Tweaker Grape's taste doesn't feel restricted by either the artificial sugar or its fate as a shot. The fruit flavour is appropriately saccharine and its lack of distractions prove how careful the experience was conceived. Yes, you could argue against how its simplicity is not true to the fruit, but with a product designed to be finished in only a few sips, you'll likely just appreciate how pleasurable things are before it's empty. And fast consumption is ideal, because as the liquid quickly warms the sweetness thickens, and borders on being too much. The purple vine dweller is somewhat sour here, and it causes minor puckering with larger gulps, which is much easier to stomach than any classic shot bitterness. Overall, there have been many flavours tried by these popular energy concentrates, but grape isn't frequently attempted, and this is a shinning example as to why it deserves to be a flavour more companies experiment with.

There's not much to comment on an energy cocktail that utilizes all sorts of big word herbal extracts and things, as sugar and caffeine are truly what gives people the new age view of "energy." Since this, like most shots, have no sugar, it's up to the undisclosed amount of caffeine to give the consumer the kick they need, which here lasts three or so hours. In the end, Tweaker Grape's flavour is good, really good, and for the oft seen price of ninety nine cents, it's a cheap thrill that doesn't taste so.

Tweaker Pomegranate Energy Shot Review

The picture does a poor job at showing this, but there's a small two hovering over the flavour indication "Pomegranate," which I can't make sense of, unless the pomegranate flavouring is a sequel. Tweaker Pomegranate(or Tweaker Pomegranate 2) comes in an average size shot bottle and sports a design that would be clean if it wasn't littered with text. Twice is too many when naming the alleged flavour and the supposed extreme nature of the product, and this is just on the front of the label; it remarks the prior two even more on the back of the bottle. But regardless, I do like the red and black colour scheme, and with some cleaning up the label would become much more attractive.

I initially didn't admire Tweaker Pomegranate's taste. It begins with a rather full bodied pomegranate that's followed coarsely and quickly by an acerbic sweetness that's chemically bitter to the taste. The fruit has a mild tartness that gives it a realistic edge that's much appreciated in dissuading some of the attention from the proceeding unpleasantness. Thankfully though, much like many shots the caustic acidity is deciduous and dissipates greatly after first taste, and it abates even more with each succeeding sip. Now detectable is that the saccharinity is convivial with the aforementioned fruit, however the more you focus upon it the less it approximates pomegranate and the more it resembles cranberry. As the liquid resides within your mouth, the stern of aqueous solution is thick and gelatinous, and along with the overall sweetness the fluid tastes and feels overly sugary and syrupy. Flavours of cherry and blueberry, both enjoying the level of sweetness, are noticeable just before the formerly described viscosity, however before they can evolve their strength and imbue much of their individual and distinct tang and taste, they're lost in the following viscidity. Overall, Tweaker Pomegranate began less appetizing than it soon became, and although I have come across better tasting shots, I have also sampled far worse.

Tweaker Pomegranate's kick was slightly stronger than I expected. I had a bit longer than a three hour buzz, and the degree of energy was more laudable than many of the recent shots I've reviewed. Each bottle contains: caffeine, ginseng, and vitamin B 12. Overall, Tweaker Pomegranate follows the path of many energy shots before it, and it mostly succeeds in doing the usual, however it isn't thick with much creativity or originality.
