Red Bull Simply Cola

Once again I'm changing up my style for reviewing, though its not as drastic as the change in Stoked Tropical Orange, as all I did was remove the numbered rating system. Anyway, back in '08, people were in shock, and heavily criticized Red Bull when they chose to release there own cola soda. You heard me, soda, not energy drink, soda. Now, Your probably thinking, why is the Caffeine King reviewing a soda? Well, the answer's rather simple. Red Bull Cola is made by Red Bull energy company, so it would be a shame not to review it. I can't say I'm terribly excited to review Red Bull Cola, but I can guarantee its gonna be like nothing I've had before...

FIRST IMPRESSION: The can of Red Bull Simply Cola is a vast improvement from Red Bull Original, though that isn't saying too much. While I do find the can to be attractive, I don't like the fact that it doesn't clarify whether its an energy drink. The only way I knew it's not an energy drink is because I had to look at the ingredients. That's too much work from us energy connoisseurs.

TASTE: I opened the can and was hit by the smell of classic cola, maybe a little less acidic. The taste is best described as cola, with more noticeable notes of lemon-lime, cinnamon, and orange. Its mildly carbonated and because of the lack of HFCS, its not as sweet as most colas. There's a mild spice taste that slowly becomes noticeable towards the end, but that only adds to the complexity. Overall, I'm really impressed with the taste of Red Bull Simply Cola. It takes cola to the next level by adding bizarre hints of various, unexpected flavours.

KICK: Like I said earlier, Red Bull Simply Cola is NOT an energy drink, but a soda, so reviewing the kick is gonna be difficult. Each can contains: coca leaf, kola nut, lemon/lime, clove, cinnamon, cardamom, pine, corn mint, galangal, vanilla, ginger, mace, cacao, licorice, orange, mustard seeds, and caffeine derived from coffee beans. The ingredients from Red Bull Cola are, in cause you didn't figure it out yourself, pretty weird. I got a next to non-existent buzz, just as expected, though the caffeine did perk me up a little bit, but nothing Vault or Mountain Dew can't do.

FINEL WORD: Overall, I feel that Red Bull Simply Cola is pretty good first attempt at making a drinkable cola. The flavour was impressive, though I did find the can lacking a bit and the kick non-existent. I can't say that the flavour is for everyone, but for me, the complexity of it only added to the cola taste. All in all, Red Bull Cola is a good extension to the skimpy Red Bull line and leaves me waiting for more unique and impressive flavours from Red Bull.
