Pit Bull Sugar Free Blueberry Pomegranate Energy Drink Review

Not only is this the last variety in the line, but Pit Bull Sugar Free Blueberry Pomegranate is the only flavour exclusively available in an eight oz. can(I believe). It comes in a can similar to its siblings, and while I do like the black and white colouration, the downsize from sixteen to eight oz.'s really squishes the design into being too busy. The flavour indication stretch out too far, and the top line "antioxidants" is out of place and just clutters an already confusing design. Also, I find it a bit redundant to have both pictures and text of its claimed flavour. It's honestly not needed, and actually, the images look too cartoon-y for the rest of the can.

Pit Bull S/F Blu Pom's taste begins a mild blend of its billed flavours, with the blueberry being predominate, and the pomegranate appearing trailing behind. The blueberry has a subtle chalkiness to it that's partially masked by a fair sourness and a light tartness. The sweetness is understated but tastes realistic with the blueberry, and it balances well with both the tart and the sourness. Then the carbonation rises incompletely and the transition to a more pronounced pomegranate takes place smoothly if not suddenly. The pomegranate lacks the vibrant nature the prior flavour had, and the sweetness doesn't seem to complement it as well as it did the blueberry. Thankfully, the pomegranate is lost in a cross between a condensed blueberry and a black cherry. The latter tastes deep and complete, and even though it is short lived, it adds complexity without complicating the experience. Overall, Pit Bull S/F Blueberry Pomegranate's flavour is a very well made alternative to its sugared sibling, but I really wish it came in a bigger can than just eight oz.'s

None of the sixteen oz. Pit Bull's have really impressed me with their kicks, so it's not hard to imagine that a smaller eight oz. one is even less impressive. I had energy lasting just over an hour and a half, and I had no jitters and no crash. Each can contains: caffeine(eighty milligrams), taurine, ginseng, several B vitamins, guarana, and inositol. In the end, the Pit Bull line has sadly come to a close, and even though I can find some positives about Sugar Free Blueberry Pomegranate, I can't help but wish I ended the line with a stronger overall drink.

Pit Bull Sugar Free Energy Drink Review

Sadly based on its sugared sibling's design, Pit Bull Sugar Free's can fails to look attractive. The silver and white just don't work together nicely as the main colours, and as a whole the can feels somber and impersonal. All the problems that plagued the original Pit Bull reappear; the dumb name, stupid slogan, multi-text, and the not so scary dog image, and while the can isn't cluttered, there are far more negatives than positives about it.

Pit Bull Sugar Free begins fizzily carbonated with ample focus on a fairly light and natural tasting lemon that's sourness is strong but feels right given the flavour. There's a brisk ginger ale that is noticeable early on, but it really only becomes a part of the experience nearing the end of it. The ale leans more towards being golden than dry, though it's not strong enough to truly be considered "golden." The ale itself has notes of a bland lime following suit, and has a dull under lap blend of various spices; all of them too hush to pin point. There's a bit of a acidic bite evident as the flavour ends, and this time around there's no oily coat left behind. Overall, Pit Bull Sugar Free tastes like it was built from the ground up to replicate its all calorie counter part as closely as possible without sacrificing taste, and they successfully did just that.

A sixteen oz. can of Pit Bull Sugar Free contains: caffeine, taurine, inositol, guarana, several B vitamins, and ginseng. Compared to other energy drinks, this ingredient cocktail isn't extremely potent, and its provided kick isn't extremely strong or long lasting. I had increased levels of energy for three hours, and there wasn't a crash at the end of it. Overall, since it follows its brothers by delivering a great flavour and a less than impressive kick and can, Pit Bull Sugar Free had no surprises and did nothing but meet expectations.

Pit Bull Pomegranate Blueberry Energy Drink Review

Although I appreciate knowing what the flavour is supposed to be, using it as the drinks sub name doesn't exactly work, especially since the sub name is long and drawn out. Pit Bull Pomegranate Blueberry comes in a similar can to its predecessors, and like Cranberry Pink Grapefruit before it, the colour trim used, this time blue, doesn't work as well with the design as Cherry Lime's bright green did. The blue looks almost powdery, and it's simply unfitting against the black and red.

The flavour begins with a light pomegranate that smoothly transits from soft and sweet, to a more authentic and realistic taste that's natural without being earthy. The sweetness is balanced initially with the pomegranate, but it briefly becomes disproportionate, creating an almost candy like moment that's wholly unfitting though far from unenjoyable. There's then evidence of a decently sour lime that only adds a bit of depth to the latter part of the pomegranate. Riding a floor below during this time is a fairly mild blueberry flavour, with its sweetness being a bit too strong for the said flavour. The blueberry also has a slight sour bite that's much more accurate to the real fruits sourness than the sweetness is. Giving the blueberry a feel of robustness, there's an insignificant rise of tartness and cherry. Neither last long, and both harmonize perfectly with the rest of the experience. In the end, Pit Bull Pomegranate Blueberry's flavour is highly complex when you focus heavily on it, and if you do, your rewarded with an extremely enjoyable beverage.

Once I finished the entire can, it was clear that I had more energy than before. It was a moderate buzz, clocking in at around three hours, thanks to: caffeine(160mg), taurine, b vitamins, inositol, ginseng and guarana. In retrospect, you'll be left impressed by Pit Bull Pomegranate Blueberry's awe-inspiring taste, and disappointed by both its can and kick.

Pit Bull Cranberry Pink Grapefruit Energy Drink Review

While essentially the same, Pit Bull Cranberry Pink Grapefruit's colour scheme of pink on black is far worse than Cherry Lime's neon green. And while I've never thought the design was intimidating or anything, it's intended to be, so why they chose the colour pink is beyond me. Another problem with the can is the sub name and flavour indication "Cranberry Pink Grapefruit." It's much too long and it's a bit awkward to say and write. Dropping the "pink" from the label would be a start in the right direction, but it would still end up being too long.

Pit Bull Cranberry Pink Grapefruits taste is light on your palate, and begins with a soft, refreshing grapefruit that's married with a quiet raspberry. The first half of the raspberry is candy-like, but the second half is realistic in both texture and level of sweetness. There's then a lingering hint of cranberry that's positively, though slightly earthy, and while its tartness is not strong, it is detectable. There's a slight cherry taste seamed with the cranberry, but it's even more of hint than the cranberry. The carbonation is bubbly and the overall liquid is incredibly smooth. All in all, while a more appropriate name would just be "Grapefruit," Cranberry Pink Grapefruit tastes great, and each sip eagerly makes you desire another.

Pit Bull Cranberry Grapefruit provided only a modest three hour buzz, with no jitters but ended with a slight crash. Each can contains: several B vitamins, taurine, caffeine(160mg), guarana, inositol, and ginseng. Overall, Pit Bull Cranberry Pink Grapefruit should be bought purely for its delectable taste, and not for power or appearance.

Pit Bull Cherry Lime Energy Drink Review

Pit Bull Cherry Limes can is a much needed revision of their original design. While the font used for the cherry lime is far too large, the bright neon colours look great against the black. One of my grips with Pit Bulls first can that hasn't been changed is the name, but thankfully, it's the only remaining problem. But since the name has remained the same, the lack of a pit bull on the can makes it now seem pointless, so my advice to the company would be to keep the can and toss the name for something else, albeit something fitting.

Pouring out a florescent pink, Pit Bull Cherry Lime is clear and smells fairly candy-like. Taste-wise, the flavour doesn't lean towards either the cherry or the lime, but instead they're blended seamlessly, creating a smooth and intriguing experience. The cherry is the initial flavour focus, that's sweet enough to be likened to a maraschino cherry, but avoids being overly sweet or syrupy. This section of the flavour is purely cherry, with no notes or hints underlying or trailing behind. The cherry is rather simple and sort lived, which I guess is good as it allows ample time for the lime. Where as the cherry was sweet, the lime is appropriately sour. The sourness isn't blunt or sharp, and the lime itself is mellow and doesn't quite taste natural. The experience ends with a steady rise of sourness that abruptly crashes, and like the can says, there's no aftertaste. The carbonation is light and bubbly, and doesn't interfere, nor really enhance the experience. Overall, the flavour is crisp, refreshing, and is a more than worthy successor to Pit Bull Original.

The kick to Cherry Lime was far less impressive than its taste, but it still did a decent job at providing several hours of energy; I'd say about three hours. Sadly, though, it did end in a crash. The energy cocktail is: several B vitamins, taurine, caffeine(160mg), guarana, and ginseng. In the end, Pit Bull Cherry Lime successfully improved most of the shady areas of the original, and kept the tradition of a truly impressive flavour.

Pit Bull

I've seen Pit Bull energy drink many times while at my local Rite Aid, but because of the terrible can, I've held off until now. While the actual design isn't too bad, the slogan's cheesy, the text is repeated in two languages, the dog is less-than-terrifying, and the name's stupid. But the one thing I really have a problem with is the name. They're obviously trying to ride off the success of Red Bull, but in 2010, knock-off names just don't do it.

Pit Bull pours out a clear, slightly faint amber colour that's on the verge of being gold. A refreshing ginger ale launches the flavour. It's mildly dry, and it mixes with a pleasantly sour lemon. There's a slight lime taste that runs under the lemon, and as the experience goes on, it blends with a re-emerging ginger ale. This lasts well into the flavour, but during the climax, it's subdued by a crisp bite. Throughout the experience, there are notes of a shallow grapefruit, but mostly it stays low key. There's a bit of an oily coating on your palette, not syrupy, but oily, almost like grease. But thankfully it's not too noticeable. In the end, Pit Bull is almost amazingly smooth, and while I did have some problems with it, it's unique and really a joy to drink.

Pit Bull has a decent amount of energy ingredients, which ends with a decent kick. I felt mildly energetic, and it lasted around two and a half to three hours, thanks to containing caffeine, guarana, inositol, ginseng, and several B vitamins. All in all, I really enjoyed the taste, but sadly the can and buzz of Pit Bull couldn't avoid several pit-falls.
