Hype Cherry Blend Energy Drink Review

There have been a lot of cherry drinks reviewed here at the Caffeine King, suffering from something of a turbulent history. Oh sure, for every fabulous "Bing" there is a terrible Rockstar Revolt Cherry, and do not even get me started on the Hype brand. The can here is a unique sixteen point nine ounces, with the vertical text really giving this design a slimming look. And, before you ask, yes, that little fifty cents sticker is a Big Lots price-tag. Cross those fingers, ladies and gentlemen, we have a crapshoot on and in our hands.

The flavor is underwhelming, although not entirely without merit. Most interesting is the diluted carbonation, an effervescence that almost seems to struggle pushing bubbles into the five percentage of juice. Speaking of which, yes, we do have five percent juice here, but I should have known better- it hails mostly from apples, the third ingredient; "sweet cherry juice concentrate," as it is written on the back of the can, is deep in the ingredient list, even appearing after caffeine! The flavor itself does not necessarily suffer from this misguided nectar focus, but even the untrained tongue can detect something detracting from the cynosure of every imbibe. That something is the bulking, routine tastes of the sweet autumn favorite fruit. And sixteen point nine ounces offers a long time to be reminded of what could have been.

The energy roll call is a familiar one, with caffeine (160 milligrams), taurine, and plenty of B vitamins. The buzz, no doubt aided by the fifty five milligrams of sugar, is packed with jitters and ends after two and a half hours with a touch of a crash. In the end, Hype Cherry Blend should be better than it ends up being; resting on the cusp of goodness lies mediocrity.
