With summer comes another Red Bull The Summer Edition, this time Beach Breeze. What type of flavor that is, well, is beyond me- the back of the can's only description is ".. a light and crisp taste." The can is the ordinary design for these "editions" the company now pumps out almost as frequent as competitors Monster or Rockstar, although the soft blue coloring is a pleasant counter to the recognizable aluminum organization.
The flavor is a weird one, tasting like traditional Red Bull but with potent floral notes and an aftertaste of coconut. What is most admirable here is how it tricks the drinker, lulling them into a false sense of familiarity with its strong acidity and habitual tastes of vanilla and citrus- the usual suspects, only for your palate to be engulfed by the earthy bitterness, almost like a drop too much rosewater made it into my can. The amaroidalness ends up staining much of your palate beyond your first or even your final sip, rescued only slightly by the sweeter suggestion of the hard husked fruit after every imbibe. With thirty eight grams of sugar, the saccharinity does not feel like enough, a rather gut-busting amount that does little to cure the massive idiosyncrasies. Would I drink it again? Probably not, and I really cannot promote that anyone else gives it a go.
114 milligrams of caffeine, along with some B vitamins and taurine, make up the energy blend here, molding a kick that lasts about two hours. Overall, Red Bull The Summer Edition Beach Breeze tries something but fails, but at least it tried.
