Sonic The Hedgehog makes his energy drink debut on the herald Caffeine King, joining the ranks of numerous other video game characters on the market. Fortunately, the blue blur's entry is not from the tepid licensing maverick Boston America Corp, with their diminutive cans and shrink wrapped nonsense, this is a full size product! Yet unfortunately, it is from G Fuel, who's earlier appearance here did not impress. I do like the bright and cartoony look, but much of the design can only be seen from the side! What is with that?

Peach Rings makes sense, since Sonic collects rings. Peach, rings, peach rings. Get it? But the candy inspiration is ultimately the problem; why should something so not for kids taste like something they buy by the bagful? Somehow, that is not the biggest flaw- real confections demand real sugar, the calories, the toothsome mouthfeel that rots your teeth and expands your waistline. So why is this sugar free? Sucralose and ace-k, a most common diet dyad, do their best but fail with the responsibility of camouflaging all the unappetizing supplements within. It is an admiral effort, but the lonely peach taste sits on your tongue unstimulated, longing for love from inside the thin aluminum walls. Sourness, or perhaps more appropriately, the lack there of, is another major blow to the experience; without any acidity, the artificial sweetness is left unchecked, and when much of the metal transport is emptied and only a few drips remain, your palate is sullied with the synthetic saccharinity that even a bite of an actual peach could not pacify.

There is 300 milligrams of caffeine here. That is an awesome amount, with an expected kick lasting three hours. Other ingredients include amino acids, green coffee bean extract, green tea extract, and some vitamins. Overall, G Fuel Sonic The Hedgehog Peach Rings is a fun little novelty that is strictly for performance junkies and can collectors. Those with taste look away.
