Red Bull The Summer Edition White Peach Sugar Free Energy Drink Review

Move over s'mores; it is not officially summer until every new "Summer Edition" Red Bull rests its chilled can in my palms. Visually, this is exactly what one expects from the brand's annual dog day drink, though my eyes feel betrayed by its salmon coloring, considering its purported flavor is white peach, but I digress. I mean, what business do two blue bars have here? See, it is best to just pretend this all looks hunky-dory.

Pouring out colorless, this is the Red Bull Peach product that got it right. Imbibes are sour and wonderfully so, the kind that has your tongue initially curl up in rejection of the caustic cocktail, only to soon realize that beneath its acidity veneer is a plucky little peach taste. The fruit lacks the verisimilitude of a moist slice of actual produce, instead basking in all the personality a bagged piece of gummy candy. And this is where that tartness really rescues the experience; diet sugars sucralose and ace-k lack both the weight and taste of honest carbohydrates, and this astringent distraction is exactly what this eight plus ounces needs to keep pesky palates, such as my own, from poking holes in its masquerade. There is no mouthful my mouth was totally impressed by, but I kept on sipping and before long, found myself wishing I had sprung for the larger twelve ounce offering.

We get a wee little eighty milligrams of caffeine, an amount my body could not fathom. Oh sure, some B vitamins and taurine are here too, but that is not what my doctor says I am addicted to. All this is to say, Red Bull's "The Summer Edition Sugar Free" this time around put all its energies into being perfectly drinkable." I wish it had put some of those energies into, you know, the "energy" part.
