Mtn Dew Baja Cabo Citrus Soda Review

Not a "blast" this time, Mtn Dew's latest Baja beverage is "Cabo Citrus," or as the label explains a "tropical citrus punch." The packaging does sport the fruit I suppose I should suspect with that sapor, but the unnaturally bright safety cone orange calls to mind the brand's previous Flamin' Hot variety, which is not something anything, anywhere, should remind anyone of.

There is a lot of sugar here, seventy four grams of the sweet stuff, which equates to almost 150% of your recommended daily intake. I am no doctor, and therefore unable to provide any medical guidance, but that seems a bit unnecessary and unhealthy. But I digress: the saccharinity all comes from high fructose corn syrup, no diet sweetener to help break up the caloric monotony, and within just a few gulps all you can taste are carbohydrates. Mouthfuls have a flimsy mouthfeel, slippery like flour on a wooden floor, and even as I allowed the candied caffeinated cocktail sit still on my tongue, my taste buds trying their damnedest to try and locate all the fruits plastered across the plastic bottle, my body began to reject this belt-busting disaster. Tangerine is the least muted, followed by deadened depictions of melon and lime, but the tropical trilogy takes a backseat to the potation's pure purpose: sugar. I would say I wish I liked this more, but I sure as hell am not taking the blame for this twenty ounce misfire.

We are given just ninety two milligrams of my namesake chemical to enjoy, my body buzzed more from all the empty calories I would wager. This is not an energy drink, obviously, but if it were, at least there would be a reason to consume this and all its destructive glory.
