Pocket Latte is a peculiar product with a creative but confused narrative; where should this product be sold in the store? The candy section? With the coffee? Or how about with the energy drinks? My local grocer stocked them near the confections, a sad location since the baby blue backdrop was hardly recognizable against the aggressive marketing of more traditional sweetmeats.
Tearing the sachet unearths what looks like a chocolate bar, though only the familiar cocoa butter rocks the ingredient list. The brown slab emblazed with the logo and some other marketing bends to minor pressure from your jaw, and the firm chunk melts quickly into a pool of competing cacao and coffee flavors. Your tongue is their battleground, and whoever wins, so do we. Every chomp climaxes with different results, whether its the bitter bean roast or the bonbon wonderland, you always have just enough sweetness to keep the kid inside you satisfied. Yet at twenty six grams in size, your palate walks away exhausted, strained in a way your usual candy piece could never induce, your tongue arid and begging for some cleansing water refreshment post consumption.
There is 100 to 120 milligrams of caffeine- ahh, just love it when a company cannot be sure. The sub-two hour buzz is moderate but distinct, a gradual rise in energy that crashes like a coffee. Overall, Pocket Latte Cream + Sugar is adventurous but uneven, and that is OK- I would rather have a product overextend then settle for the obvious.
