Monster Dub Edition Mad Dog Energy Drink Review

An uncreative palette swap from the Baller's Blend reviewed months ago, Mad Dog is a mysterious and confusing beverage. Is it a repackaging of the original "Dub Edition" drink from years ago? Sadly yes, but considering it already went from a thirty two ounce can to a twist top import-style transport, Monster is just congesting their own shelve space.

Your tongue is assaulted by the sweet taste of maraschino cherries, somewhat soured with a pleasant tail of bright red grapes. It is the same as the aforementioned Dub Edition (criminally understated on the line's trademark cryptic paragraph on the back), but while we are here, we may as well elaborate it some more. Green grape's mellow bite, tainted of pears and Granny Smith apples, works as the underbelly of the experience. Slightly tarter than the above, the trilogy of discreet tastes establish wonderful depth and complement the two predominate magically. Every fruit is sweet but never syrupy or cloyingly so, a candying saccharinity that avoids ever poorly or overdoing its job. I liked the flavor in 2010 and I like it now, this Monster is still one of the company's strongest entries.

There is absolutely nothing special here, a 220 calorie drink with the standard cocktail of ingredients: caffeine (160 mg), inositol, guarana, B vitamins, and others too obvious to spend the time typing. The energy lasted three plus hours, again nothing spectacular. On the whole, as the original Monster Dub Edition, Mad Dog Punch tastes good, but if it confuses me, it will no doubt baffle the casual consumer.
