Xpress Low-Carb's can is even less interesting than its full-sugar sister, a dull white background that sports the same silly dotted "x." What purpose the dot servers is beyond me, as there is no "i" in the name (nor is there one in the name, for what it is worth), but serving as the only drop of visual personality, I suppose I cannot be too critical of the tittle.
The flavor is as completely hopeless as any Red Bull clone before it, you know the one, the trilogy of bubble gum, vanilla and fruits. But what is done well here is the acid, which is dialed way back from the caloric counterpart, reducing the paralyzingly metallic and medicinal tastes to more of a nuance than a fourth full-fledged flavor. Trust me though, the experience is still plenty sour, but not in the way the original variety overwhelmingly put us through; you are unlikely to spot Xpress Low-Carb on this year's Your Drink Sucks list. The sweeteners deserve some praise here, ace-k and sucralose, a duet that tastes more natural on the tongue than expected. Well, I mean, do not go expecting that lovely raw or even white sugar flavor, but in a diet drink, it works.
The buzz is around the same as Xpress Original, perhaps a touch weaker due to not having the luxury of a sugar rush; the kick lasts about two hours off of a blend of caffeine, taurine, inositol, guarana, and B vitamins. All together, it is kind of amazing to think that all Xpress needed to do to their flavor profile was remove the sugar.
