International Delight Caramel Macchiato Iced Coffee Review

Fans of The Caffeine King no doubt recall that way back in 2013 we ran a review on the reduced calorie variation of this drink; it was just OK, but that did not stop the company from repurposing its product into the more familiar energy drink can. A wise decision when you consider competitors in the RTD marketplace like Monster and Starbucks doing the same. Or perhaps not, when you notice its position in my local store- sitting in the dairy department, and its cheap-feeling shrink wrapped container. These bewildering decisions do nothing but, well, bewilder.

220 calories. Thirty five grams of sugar. Five grams of fat, three of which are of the saturated variety. If that does not make your imaginary belt burst, then sit back, sip on, and enjoy what is essentially a canned caffeinated milkshake. "Macchiato" is of course espresso with a touch of milk, and this is the classic American bastardization of the barista beverage, right down to its ooey-gooey texture and complete absence of any actual java taste. Trust in my tongue- the beans portrayed on the front of the label are nothing more than a marketing ploy, there is not one moment where the divine decoction makes an appearance. Caramel is just an excuse for supplementary sweetness, no doubt where the "natural and artificial flavors" become involved. They are missing that purported burnt characterization, a one-dimensional feature that does not have the strength to carry the entire fifteen ounces. The experience thusly fails to understand the basics of what it should be doing, which is of course, represent coffee.

After all that, we get just ninety milligrams of caffeine, but hey do not worry, I did not forget that this is not an energy drinks (it just looks like one). The buzz is nothing more than your usual two hour long one, no doubt influenced by all the empty carbohydrates. In the end, Caramel Macchiato Iced Coffee proves that International Delight should stick to the coffee creamer category.

International Delight Vanilla Iced Coffee Review

Consonantly ugly to the brand's Mocha flavor also sold at ten and a half ounces, this Vanilla variety is very "International Delight," but not particularly cosmopolitan or delightful. The bottle has a second-rate feel in the palm, as handsome as Quasimodo with all his symmetry when held between your fingers.

Sweet with the fake vanilla goodness of such flavored ice cream, with an unmistakable fattiness that would make Paula Deen blush. It is satisfying to drink, almost sickeningly but never interrupting the intention to finish in as little as only a few sips. The coffee taste debatably present, lost within the creamy glibness and dessert-esque flavors, although arguably it is unnecessary. Tasting as much like iced coffee as it ever does when served anything but black, it forces the question why this is not instead marketed as a caffeinated vanilla milkshake?

There again is only 100 or so milligrams of caffeine, an amount almost half of what a cup of real coffee should provide. There is a complaisant kick lasting two hours, if you are not particularly exhausted. I was not physically exhausted when I had this, only exhausted from all the "iced coffees" of recent times.

International Delight Mocha Iced Coffee Review

This ugly ten and a half ounce bottle is poorly shrink wrapped and deformed, clumsy in the palm with a design that leaves much desired. It is the full-sugar variety of the Mocha Light version reviewed not all that long ago, a really solid drink that lays heavy expectations on this variety despite its homely appearance.

Well shaken with all the nuggets stuck to the bottom now completely emulsified, the first sip is followed by three more; I was half a bottle down before I realized what was happening! Under the impression that the Light flavors were good, this 190 calorie bomb has such a delicate creaminess and superb saccharinity that you will have a tough time going back. But why would you? The coffee taste here is dull, sure, but what person honestly would crack open a bottle looking for what they should be brewing themselves. Inexplicably and virtually excessively maven, it delivers only what is promised, but in spades.

If my second grade math talents are as crackerjack as they should be, there is only 100 milligrams of caffeine here, and the resulting buzz lasts about two hours. Everything in mind, International Delight Mocha Iced Coffee is what is should be, but not much else.

International Delight Mocha Light Iced Coffee Review

Huh? Did I not just review an International Delight flavor like, yesterday? Must be runnin' out of things to review... Returning is almost the same carton, only with little chunks of chocolate instead of caramel, as well as darker brown highlights. Otherwise, this is outright identical to their unsuccessful Macchiato variety.

Poured into my tall Coca-Cola glass smuggled out of some eatery, the sepia stained solution does not exit the cup with high expectations. Perhaps that is the reason for this version's intense competence- hell, it is actually pretty damn good! It is thick, not for the eyes but certainly on the tongue, with a striking tango of mocha and coffee. Its sweetness knows how to sweeten without overthrowing the java's nuance and desired bitterness, and the chocolate's dark depth and subtly. Artificial sugars sink into the experience not unexpectedly but never distractingly, a beverage perhaps only so praised due to the brand's former abomination.

Here again is the same fifty six or so milligrams of caffeine per eight ounces, although you are likely to drink more than just a single serving. But from one, the buzz lasts only an hour or so, unfortunate but not exactly a disappointment. To end, International Delight Light Mocha Iced Coffee is a guiltless pleasure at a modest 100 calories, perhaps more enjoyable to one who's coffee maker reads "Mr. Coffee."

International Delight Caramel Macchiato Light Iced Coffee Review

Wow! Hey now, stop pouring, it is gonna overflow! And ruin the caramel candies I like ta eat with ma raw coffee beans! In all seriousness though, this is a pretty good idea, what seems to be a refined version of Maxwell House's 90's refrigerated catastrophe. They are fortunate in that there is no brand to ruin here, at least in the name of coffee, as anyone who knows, let alone appreciates, the actual taste of coffee would never touch this 100 calorie beverage (although the same could be said about Maxwell House).

A mild brown color with a sweet scent, this Caramel Macchiato flavor is thin on the palate with the taste of burnt sugar and bitter coffee. It is super saccharine but is quickly cloying, a sugariness with a artificial note that does not play well with the charred caramel counterfeit and pungent brew. There is enough creaminess for a coffee, but the bevy of skimmed milk and minority of cream crafts a texture and fattiness so unsatisfying that you wish that there were just a few more calories, from more cream that is. I have had energy coffees far worse than our introduction to the International Delight brand, but at least they were small eight or sixteen ounce cans; not half gallon cartons!

This is not much of an energy drink, but is iced coffee nonetheless, so I guess people will be drinking glasses full this summer (more like choking down). There is approximately fifty six milligrams per eight ounces, and obviously the more you drink the better buzz you receive. For me, a serving ran me two plus hours, jitter free and without crash. Overall, International Delight Caramel Macchiato Light is four bucks of bad taste.
