Rockstar Unplugged Passion Fruit Energy Drink Review

Rockstar Unplugged makes zero sense to me; the company has already manufactured passion fruit products previously, so what does this new drink have to offer? A smaller can? So what! The biggest point of personality is probably containing hemp seed this time around; wow man, heavy.

Pouring out an unappealing gold color, the purples and whites of the can no where to be found inside. It is not terribly great to be honest, passion fruit is on the forefront of the flavor sure, but the hemp seed oil does not play nice with anything. The texture is slippery, and each imbibe has this herbal funk that forces itself over other elements. Sourness, for example, dies within moments of the aurous elixir hitting your palate, disrespecting the produce it allegedly impersonates. By the time you swallow your pride and your current mouthful, the herbaceous suspicion just does not leave well enough behind. Your palate is now stained of the rather nasty aftertaste, and no amount of subsequent gulps can relief your poor tongue. Sucralose and ace-k are in charge of sweetness, and if I were to give the experience any positives, it would be the absence of any artificial aftertaste. Of course there is an aftertaste, but hey, at least it ain't the diet sugars' fault.

Eighty milligrams of caffeine is all we have to work with, and any kick is lacking in the potency department. With a kick lasting two hours or less, Rockstar Unplugged Passion Fruit fails at being anything more than a mediocre option in your local energy drink chill-chest.

Rockstar Pure Zero Mango Orange Passion Fruit Energy Drink Review

Bright orange should just jump off of this can's blackness, but its unfocused fore and background has eyes offering only a fleeting glaze. It is loquacious and unrelenting, tedious to look at and even more so to think about. The inconsistently textured aluminum should feel more important in the hand, but it is a trite and forced premium quality today cliche like chrome accents on a Nissan Versa.

Nose excited but palate quaking, the cologne from the can would work in a pinch behind the ears before a date. But our first sip is whole heartedly lackluster, pale impersonations without multiplicity or respect. Mango, orange and passion fruit are text most irrelevant, words having little to do with the experience. The trilogy of flavors should be symmetrical and intricate, with nuance, texture and robust saccharinity. The reality is an invariable taste, an obtuse lump of sorrowed xeroxes. With only the most manufactured sweetness, the watery mouthfeel has ever ounce painfully and frustratingly disconcerting. This disturbed potation is but another rusty cog in the ill-oiled Rockstar machine.

Here is the drink's saving grace, well, it tries and nearly does. 240 milligrams of caffeine is a mighty quantity, and the four hour kick has a lot to thank for it. Each can also contains: B vitamins, taurine, inositol, milk thistle, ginseng, and guarana. Ugly, ungainly and unsatisfying, Rockstar Pure Zero Mango Orange Passion Fruit is an energy drink I would not give another look on Big Lots' shelves. Somehow, this is on many convenience store shelves.

Rockstar Juiced Energy Drink

Rockstar is one(1) of the most well known energy drinks in the market. Its right up there with Red Bull and Monster. So its no shock when Monster released Khaos, an energy drink containing juice, other companies would follow, like Rockstar. So today I'm gonna review Rockstar Juiced. It claims to be 50%. Wait a minute, does that mean the first half's gonna be plain juice and the last half is gonna be plain energy drink? Lets find out...

FIRST IMPRESSION: The can is, how should I say, ugly? Yeah, its ugly. It kinda annoys me how energy drink companies don't come up with a new can for every flavour. They all use the same design. At least Monster will occasionally change it up a bit. Upon further inspection, I noticed that Rockstar is a little full of them self's. They say things like "Bigger" and "Better" and "Faster"... and "Stronger". Kinda ironic, Rockstar isn't the biggest, there's bigger 32oz. Monster...2/5

TASTE: The taste is very short, and light. Its best described as passionfruit upfront and orange citrus in the back and towards the end. Its lightly carbonated and not very sweet. I really don't taste any mango, like the can says. But, I have to say that the flavour is a winner. Its even better than Guava. Its a very smooth and goes down easy, which goes well with the large 24oz size of the drink. It doesn't feel like a chore drinking this. Its more like, "shit, its gone." Overall, a really good flavour. I can definitely see myself drinking this again in my dreams...4.2/5

KICK: Well, each can contains a whopping: Carbonated water, fruit juice concentrates (a blend of apple, pear, mango, orange, and passion fruit juice from concentrates), glucose, taurine, citric acid, taurine, natural flavors, sodium benzoate (to protect taste), ascorbic acid, caffeine, potassium sorbate (to protect taste), L-carnitine, inositol, milk thistle extract, ester gum, ginko biloba leaf extract, sucralose, guarana seed extract, niacinamide, calcium pantothenate, panax ginseng root extract, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, beta-carotene (color), and cyanocobalamin. I felt very alert and energetic. This lasted a good four(4) and a half(1/2) before I felt like collapsing. Overall, right on par with Rockstar Juiced Guava...4/5

FINAL WORD: I'd have to say that both Rocstar Juiced's are really good. Despite the can lacking in... everything, the great taste and kick make up for it. I'm kinda disappointed thought with Rockstar. They don't distribute as well as most other big name energy drinks. I rarely see them at convenience stores, and occasionally at Big Lots or the Dollar Tree. This just means I'll have to go to the Dollar Tree and Big Lots more often. Oh poor me...4.1/5

2022- Your Drink Sucks

Every year we list out not just the worst drinks, but the ones that scrape the bottom of the barrel, package the sludge up and slap the word "energy" on it. When will it end!?

*these are not necessarily products that were released in 2022, but rather those that were reviewed here in 2022.*

La Colombe Pumpkin Spice Draft Latte

I have nothing against PSL, but when you call your product that, you had better deliver. This drink has all the pumpkin spice flavor of a gym sock.

Monster Lewis Hamilton

It is a shame to see Monster, one of the top dog energy drink companies, so brazenly copy Red Bull's famous flavor. What is worse is how poor a job they did.

Super Coffee Peppermint Mocha Latte

A late addition to this list, in fact it was the last review of the year, and boy did we go out with a wimper.

Dr. Enuf Cherry Herbal

"Sucks" is the only way to describe this. Well, unless I want to add a few quarters to the swear jar.

Jocko Go Passion Fruit + Mango

Jocko Go is so surprisingly dead on arrival that it left me for a loss of words. And if anyone has ever read any of the comments readers leave, that is surprising.

Mtn Dew VooDew 2022

In truth, this is mostly drinkable, and it is limited-time, so why pick on it? Because it has an absurd amount of calories in a season your diet should be ruined by candy, not soda.

Zoa Fruit Punch

I do not take pleasure in harping on energy drinks; I would much prefer all of them rock. This one by The Rock, however, is not as solid as, well, a rock.

Rockstar Unplugged Passion Fruit

The use of hemp seed oil was a fascinating artifice, but when it makes your drink slimy, what the hell is the point? Just stop it, Rockstar, please.

Bang Miami Cola

Some energy drinks are bad, others disappoint. This one sucks, oh my god does it suck.

Rockstar Juiced Guava

With a well deserved trip to Big Lots, I was able to get my hands on several different energy drinks I've never seen and/or heard of. I hope to review those later, for today I got my hands on a 12 pack of 24oz. Rockstar Guava for $8. That's right, just $8. You can't get three(3) 24oz. energy drinks anywhere else. This is why I really adore Big Lots. As for all of you who don't know, Big Lots is a chain of discount stores across America(I believe). Similar to Mardens, or The Christmas Tree Shop. I only had $15 and spent nearly all of it on this, a 24 pack of 12oz Inked for $5, and two(2) 16.9oz Red Devils. Guava was the most expensive, and I'm excited to try it, but was it worth the $8...

FIRST IMPRESSION: Eh, the can's okay. Rockstar has never been known for their "impressive" can designs, but it passes. It's certainly better than Power Trip Mango or Free Fall. I do though like the fake metal imprints on the side of the can. It adds the "tough" image that Rockstar "has". I've never had, or ever heard of a "Guava" so, this will be an interesting experience...3/5

TASTE: I cracked the top open took a big gulp. The initial taste is very similar to Energy Bloom Mango Passion fruit. Its Very light, somewhat sticky in your mouth. Almost like a less acidity No Fear Motherload. Its a very pleasant flavor and goes down very quick. Though I can't com pair it to Guava fruits, I can say that I enjoy it and am glad that I bought a 12 pack...4/5

KICK: Well, I don't know if it was the size or the carbonated water, fruit juice concentrates (a blend of pear and apple juices), guava puree, taurine, citric acid, natural flavors, benzoic acid, caffeine, sucralose, L-carnitine, milk thistle extract, guarana seed extract, panax ginseng root extract, but this drink sure woke me up. My hearts pounding and oh would you look at that. My heart stopped again. Poor thing never had a chance...4/5

FINAL WORD: This must be my favorite Rockstar I've had to date(I mean, we had a great dinner, caught a romantic movie and held hands in the car... her father's a dick though). I'd really recommend you giving this drink a try. Even if you've never had a guava, you should still give it a try. Hey wait a minute... the last couple of energy drinks have been decent to great? This, this has never happened to me... I never thought I'd say this but, I really want a crappy energy drink now...4/5

Rockstar Organic Island Fruit Energy Drink Review

This mess of a can, the only organic energy drink from Rockstar, comes to us in a sloppy, hastily slapped together package. Its green, yeah we get it, because "nature is green," with faux woodgrain like the interior of a mid-luxury car. Tons of text titters around the can, with the words "energy" and "organic" fortunately easy to find and read. Otherwise, the words read with inconsistent font, size, color, and importance.

There is oodles of sweetness here, derived from true cane sugar and pierces through the organic grasp of every sip, along side some slight sourness. You taste the intricacies of green coffee and guarana, their bitter depth cut only by the balanced sugariness, climaxing with nuances of passion fruit and mango; the fruity finish accented by a mushed punch of a myriad of fruits. What follows is a biting zenith of coarse astringency swiftly subdued by one last wave of honey. But it is the effervescence who is the backbone here: it livens the stalwart earthiness and levels off the sweetness, maintaining an experience where each imbibe never weighs mundanely on the tongue while never forgetting its homey inspirations.

Each can contains: guarana, green coffee, and in total, a 160 milligrams of caffeine. The kick, lacking many staples of your usual ingredient cocktail, preforms no differently, with a three, give or take, hour long buzz. On the whole, Organic Island Fruit is a few nips and tucks away from being a true winner. In its current form? It is still one of the better from the brand.

Rockstar Juiced Tropical Passionfruit Energy Drink Review

Rockstar Juiced Tropical Passionfruit is an ugly looking drink, but one that screams for a textured can! Its metal design looks cheap and has nothing to do with "juice," aside from feigned toughness, and makes the already unnecessary text (as in, "juice" is stated at least three times) more difficult to read.

First sip is super sweet, forty eight grams of sugar and glucose, in addition to sucralose and ace-k, and this sugariness only builds as the can is depleted. Each can is ten percent juice, all from apple and orange, leaving any passion fruit flavor for the nebulous "natural flavors" deep in the drink's ingredient list. But the namesake taste is present in every imbibe, its trademark tartness makes a hearty appearance in each gulp, and its juice brethren add only a partially related organic edge to the generally medicinal experience. It is not a bad beverage in itself, a completely drinkable 220 calorie cocktail of fruits more at home in a can that reads "NOS" or "No Fear."

Each can contains: taurine, l-carnitine, inositol, ginseng, guarana, B vitamins, and 160 milligrams of caffeine. The buzz is your basic two and a half hour long kind, crafting a few jitters and a slight crash. To end, Rockstar Juiced Tropical Passionfruit is an uninspired release, but it one that only ran me a buck fifty.

Your Drink Sucks 2014 Edition

Whether they were sent from the company, discount store finds, or full-priced convenience store dwellers, it seems no company was immune from releasing bad beverages this year.

*these are not necessarily products that were released in 2014, but rather those that were reviewed in 2014.

Vuka Workout Zo-Cal

A mediocre drink when sweetened with actual sugar, Stevia truly taints the brand's solid pedestrian reputation.

Loop Zero

An inferior generic take on the second-rate Monster Zero Ultra, it dilutes an already watery flavor and fluxes on more water. A pointless aberration of a pointless beverage, moving on.

AMP Gold

The company's Dale Jr. Sour flavor almost edged this autumn-inspired catastrophe off the list, but just take my word on this: just avoid the line all-together.

Rockstar Sugar Free

Pure Zero Mango Orange Passion Fruit almost snagged this spot, but that drink at least had 240 milligrams of caffeine. With its highlight its uninspired 160 mg-powered buzz, Rockstar Sugar Free is a stale revision of a relic of the early last decade.

Hansen's Diet Energy Diet Red

I almost did not included this drink due to just how silly it is! Eight ounces?! "Diet" in its name twice?! Red Bull clone?! Still?! It is 2014 Hansen's, get your act together.

Stewart's Sugar Free Impact

Like the mini mart's crap beer in the neighboring chill-chest, there is simply no room in the world for waste like this.

Wired Strawberry Lemonade Energy Drink

What really stings here is the caffeine content: less than 100 milligrams and it is sixteen ounces! That would not be a problem if the rest of the drink was decent- no, wait, it is piteous and that is putting it mildly.

AJ's Rush Energy Sugar Free

Hello AJ's Energy Rush Sugar Free, are you the worst drink reviewed in 2014? No, well, given how relentlessly inadequate you are, I am really concerned about number one.

aquadopa

There are acquired tastes, like beer, dark chocolate and coffee. Then there is retched abominations where you would have pay a great sum of cash to get someone to finish a can with a smile on their face. Aquadopa, I do not care if your company supplied samples for free. This drink sucks and there is no other opinion.

Rockstar Tropical Citrus Energy Water Review

Familiarity sets in at first glance, Rockstar playing it incredibly safe with their energy water entry. The bottle is what it should be, or at least what the company feels consumers think it should be, a very Vitaminwater-esque packaging that is so wrongly inspired that you will initially mistake this for Glaceau's latest hardly healthy drink.

Muted notes of undistinguished citrus struggle to break through the experience's overpowered watery characteristic. It is all you can taste; there is nothing tropical about the diluted tastes of lemon, mango, passion fruit and lime, if those are what are present and there is probably a few more. But who cares? Those looking for refreshment this summer will be drinking lemonade, and those looking for it at the gym will be drinking water, as in without "energy" in front. This is as arid as they come, interminably dull simply out of stereotype rather than purposefulness. Unnatural sugars distract from the beverage's botched ambitions, although there is a pretty good tartness buried under all the monotony.

There have been buzzes more potent, as 200 milligrams of caffeine is not too much for a twenty ounce drink. Each bottle also contains: taurine, B vitamins, ginseng, and guarana. In the end, this energy water will be bought once, but then never again.

Rockstar Xdurance Super Sours Green Apple Energy Drink Review

Rockstar just cannot leave a gimmick alone when it thinks it is a good idea; the case with Xdurance's latest flavor "Super Sours Green Apple," which is, if I can count correctly, their third attempt at the autumn favorite after "Hardcore Apple" and the sugared "Super Sours" version. The can is not too shabby- I like the honeycomb backdrop and the black and green make for a fairly good color scheme. Plus, it puts its major selling point, 300 milligrams of caffeine, right in your face.

Apple is somehow a rather popular flavor in the world of energy drinks, yet I have yet to be convinced that their balance of sweetness and acidity, or the thousands of varieties, can be properly reproduced in a can. Rockstar's Super Sours Green Apple unfortunately remains yet another disappointment. There are three things broken in this trippy exercise in excess: 1) Things are just not that sour! Sure, there is an inkling of acidity with every quaff, but nothing that earns the adjective "super." 2) The beverage's apple flavor is the utmost stock interpretation of the seeded fruit you can find. There is no depth, no personality, just pure corporate wringing of the popular produce. 3) Sweetness is tongue-numbing. Sucralose and ace-k do their absolute worst, working without passion for the fall harvest or without worry that they will stain your palate of their chemical aftertaste for hours beyond your final sip. Do you like drinking carbonated sugar free apple candy? Well then this drink is for you. Only you

300 milligrams of caffeine. This is where things get real good. The buzz is dynamite, lasting a rock solid four hours, though there is a bit of a crash as your body works through the excessive quantity of the stimulant. Overall, Rockstar's latest drink can only be recommended if you value the "energy" in "energy drink" and not the "drink."
